Relocating

Moving is never fun, many people would agree. After Mr. HutchLife and I got married in 2012 we moved in together and since then have moved 5 times, 4 times while in Michigan and #5 here to Atlanta. We’ve got moving down to a science. With each move we got rid of things we didn’t need and have learned to live with just what we need. Well, when we found out we were moving to Atlanta I got on it to start purging again because I didn’t want to pack and carry a ton of things with us that we hadn’t used in 6+ months or things we could donate.

Well imagine our surprise when we learned we didn’t have to pack ANYTHING. ANYTHING. If we packed things up the relocation company would have to unpack it and then repack it in their boxes. With Baby HutchLife being 5 ½ months old that was music to our ears. How were we going to pack everything up with Mr. HutchLife still working and I’m home with Baby HL? We didn’t know and thankfully didn’t have to figure it out. We scheduled the day to come pack up our stuff, to take our car and fly out.

The best part for me was purging. When you’re moving it is a great time to really assess what you need versus what you’re just holding on to. I realized there were many things that we were holding onto that just sat on a shelf and weren’t used or papers we had building up in piles. It was time to scan them onto the computer or throw them out. After watching Marie Kondo on Netflix it was quite easy to see what sparked joy and what didn’t. That made it easy to let things go, especially clothes. Watching the Moving Company pack all of our stuff up in a matter of 4 hours was eye opening. They were surprised it didn’t take longer.

The best part was moving to our new home and not had they packed everything up for us but they unpacked everything for us as well. With Mr. HutchLife starting a new job it was such a relief to not have to worry about unpacking our things and putting our new home together with a 6 month old and

It’s helpful to purge once a quarter so that you don’t end up with too many things and not enough space and then say to yourself you need more space for all your things and then get more space and add more things and need more space and… you get where I’m going. Do you hold onto things that you haven’t used in months? Pretend you were moving and had to pack things up, what would you take with you? What would you donate or get rid of?

Thinking about your finances are there things you purchase that you could stop purchasing? Is there a purge you could do with your finances by re-evaluating what you’re doing?
