Things to Do in Atlanta

As you know, we currently reside in Atlanta. One of the first things we learned is that many people say they live in Atlanta but actually live in a suburb outside of Atlanta. So when folks say they live in Atlanta, they can mean anywhere from 30-50 min outside of the city. Lesson learned when I visited family haha! It’s nice to have family in the vicinity but also let us know we won’t be seeing them that often because Atlanta traffic really is NO JOKE.

One of the things that was non-negotiable for Mr. HutchLife and I when we found out we were moving to Atlanta was that we did not want to have to deal with ATL traffic if we didn’t need to. That meant finding a place to live that would put us in close proximity to his job, all the stores we would go to, children’s activities for Baby HutchLife and be walkable for me so that we could get out and take walks. How did we do? I’ll share our Apartment Hunting Trip in a separate post but yes we met all of the things on our checklist.

With that being said there is SO MUCH TO DO in Atlanta. World of Coca-Cola, Georgia Aquarium – the largest aquarium in the world!, Children’s Museum, Atlanta Zoo, Center for Puppetry, & arts, so many museums, so many parks, so many historic sites, so much to do!

So far we have visited:

Atlanta Zoo – it’s a nice little zoo. I’ve been to bigger, but this one is nice and an easy walk with family. They just opened up the new safari so we’re excited to go back and visit.

Children’s Museum – this place is so much fun for kids of all ages. Even Baby HutchLife was able to enjoy the 2 & under area to crawl around and have fun on her playdate.

Piedmont Park – this park is absolutely huge! There’s so much to see and they so many different street fairs in the park you’re always bound to find something fun to look at and it has a beautiful view of Midtown Atlanta

Atlanta Beltline – such a beautiful walk, 22 miles of trails that take you around the city and give you the opportunity to see all the communities where you can live and have lots of fun things to do.

Ponce City Market – such a cool place to try different foods, get to the Atlanta Beltline, beautiful rooftop view, and all around cool hangout spot.

Atlantic Station – very nice outdoor mall with shops, restaurants and movie theater. We live here and it is such a great location to be in with lots of activities always happening, Venus Williams played tennis here a month or so ago, and a new Bowling Alley on the way.

Sugarloaf Mills Mall – this was the first mall I’d been to where I saw a Medieval Times, AMC, Paintball, Escape Room, Dave & Busters, Glow in the Dark Putt Putt, Indoor Trampoline Park, and more.

We’ve still got a ton of places to visit over the next 8 months that we’re here so we’ve got our work cut out for us. If you’re ever in Atlanta there are tons of things to do, including many of them being free.

When you travel do you look for free things to do? If so, what are some fun places you’ve visited and things you’ve done?
