Debt Free Journey

From 36 months to 21 months

2016 ended with a bang! We paid off a ton of debt and we were looking forward to 2017 and paying off the FINAL student loan. Both Mr. HutchLife and I received promotions at work that gave us such a large increase in income that we were able to recalculate our time to pay off our debt to 21 months. What a blessing!

When we began this debt free journey we calculated 36 months to pay everything off because at the time we were on one income. You work with the information that you’ve got. Three promotions later between the two of us and we were able to knock off 15 months.

As we counted down to November 30th and saw we were getting closer to being debt free, looking at where we thought we’d be and where we were we couldn’t help but be humbled and thankful. One of the things that Dave Ramsey always said was when you handle money God’s way He will bless you even more. We are living proof that focusing our energy on not only getting out of debt but being intentional with every dollar that we received showed us how to be good financial stewards. Luke 16:10 says, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much..”

If you’re just starting your debt free journey or thinking of starting, go for it and don’t let the timeline of how long it will take you to pay it off scare you off. I don’t believe it takes anyone as long as they think it will. Money begins to come in from hard work, bonuses, refunds, etc. I’ve seen so many stories and heard so many that have shared that. Don’t wait for 2020 – start knocking that debt out now!
